Pure Gold

Embarking on the journey to maintain purity in a world inundated with sexual pressures is a challenging task.

In my teenage days, I found solace in reading what I believed to be harmless “love novels” or what is commonly known as “Romantic novels.” Little did I know the potential harm it could inflict on my mind. A chance encounter with explicit content at a friend’s house opened my eyes to the reality of the dangers we face in today’s world. This experience, at around the age of 12, marked the beginning of my journey to understanding the importance of safeguarding one’s innocence.

In this article, I share my personal journey, drawing attention to crucial insights that have played a pivotal role in navigating the complexities of maintaining a pure and virtuous life.

At the age of fourteen, I stumbled upon a transformative book by Pst. Bisi Adewale titled “PURE GOLD.” The author’s powerful message, urging readers to embrace purity and promising a special gift for those who enter marriage as virgins, left an indelible mark on me. Little did I know that these words would become a beacon of light in moments of sexual pressure, as the desire for the gift helped me in moment of making foolish decisions as a teenager.

Two years later, I found myself in the company of a remarkable sister named Sis. Tola. A 24-year-old virgin in a relationship, she became a source of inspiration and strength during a one-night discussion together. Her straightforward advice resonated deeply: “Look at me, I’m 24 years old and a virgin. If you are still a virgin, please keep yourself; it pays.” This encounter planted a seed in my heart, compelling me to share the same wisdom with others when I reached the age of 24.

In my pursuit of purity, I mistakenly focused my boundaries on peers, thinking them to be the potential source of temptation. However, I soon realized that the enemy’s tactics were more nuanced, using the influence of the elderly instead. Fortunately, God’s wisdom prevailed, and His mercy and grace guided me through the pitfalls of my journey.

Living in a generation characterized by intelligence and independence, we often believe that we can outsmart sin and evade its consequences. However, history and biblical narratives, such as those of Solomon, Samson, and David, remind us that every sin, especially deliberate ones, carries repercussions. The biblical counsel in 1 Corinthians 6:18 reinforces the importance of fleeing from immorality.

Hebrews 13:4 emphasizes the honor of marriage and underscores the need to keep the marriage bed undefiled. Marriage, beyond being a ceremonial event, is portrayed as the culmination of a life prepared for from childhood, shaping one’s values, beliefs, and temperament. More importantly, let God be your guide; Psalm 32:8, I will instruct you, and teach you which way you should go, I will guide you with my own eyes.

As someone who has surpassed the age of 24, I acknowledge the battles and triumphs in my sexual journey. To those still on this path, I offer a simple yet powerful message: “If you are a virgin, please keep yourself; it pays.”  Beyond being a virgin, embrace purity, whether you are a virgin or not.  Despite the pressures, you can be pure.. Purity begins in the heart. Combat the pressures by starting from within – guard your thoughts and heart against immoral influences; keep your heart clean from all immoral pictures, videos, even talks (porn, movies, articles/novels propelling sexual drive, immoral and sexual triggering objects). Pray earnestly, seeking strength from God

Sex is good and amazingly fulfiling within marriage (spouses) only, as a single person, when the enemy paint it to you, ask God for strength and RUN. Don’t stay for negotiation…RUN as fast as possible. Avoid that sister/brother luring you to sexual sin, delete that video, delete that musical audio/video, delete that movie that turns you on delete any triggering content, distance yourself from compromising situations, …shutdown completely from the activating devices of sexual impurity. Let us collectively choose the path of righteousness and strive for a life that exemplifies God’s intended purpose.

While childhood experiences may have given birth to anomalies, the promise of God’s mercy and grace, and the attainment of a perspective aligned with His purpose remains. Let us collectively strive for a life that reflects the complete and wholesome existence God desires for us.
