Zelophehad’s Daughters: Parental Influence (Series II)

Zelophehad’s Daughters: Parental Influence (Series II)

We started the story of Zelophehad’s daughters last week as recorded in Numbers 27. You can read up the introductory article so as to catch up with it or go to our page on Amazon to get the full series. The link is below this article.

Despite the names of Zelophehad’s daughters were mentioned; Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah, it was not recorded that they had a spokesperson. It was all presented as a collective idea. It means no one outshine the other, they are all on the same page, speaking one language, aiming at the same goal (getting their inheritance). This brings us to the values of Zelophehad as a father inculcated by his daughters.

“Show me a child, and I will tell you who his parents are and how well he/she has been taught.” Whenever a child act or display a show of honour or shame, we simply check his track-record of where he/she is coming from. Parents have significant role to play in the life of a child. That is why God made some people (father and mother) with higher experience in life their custodian; to provide, nurture, train, teach, encourage, be there and take responsibility for them. “I work 4 shifts because of my children”, if you are busy making money without training them, they will eventually waste the money you have made all your life. As much as you want to make money, create time to train them. You can reduce 4 to 3 or 2 shifts so as to have time for them. Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). How do we pay the bills? Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6. God can never go against Himself nor His Word, if you want to train your children and God sees your heart as such, He will make a way for you.

Zelophehad must have taught his girls great values; respect for elders, boldness, kindness, courage, hardwork, diligence, persistence, unity, love, peaceful co-habitation, reference for God, integrity. Because they display such a good respect and calmness in presenting a request. They said something important about their father, which implies that their father must have been a good man whose name worth not to be erased.

The request statement as follows:

Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the Lord in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.

Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.

I also notice and came to conclusion that they are led by God. Because 1 John 5:14 says This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us

James 4:3a further buttress “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss…”

It then dawns on me that these ladies are led by the Spirit of God to have attracted God’s attention like that and also received answer to their request. In fact in the context of this article, they are brought up in the laws of the Lord. God specifically gave a new law because of them. I want to be a woman like that, whose attention nations cannot ignore, whose request God will grant, who cannot be overlooked by men, but command the respect of both young and old. May the Lord make you that kind of woman too.

Another thing that attracts me in the story of Zelophehad’s daughters is the home training and confidence of these ladies. When you are well groomed and have good character, it gives you confidence. Their parents must have taught and groomed them well.

Let us go back a bit, in all reasonability and rationality, these girls are disadvantageous. They aren’t even daughters from the first clan or prominent clan, Manasseh, the first born of Joseph, whom even Jacob had decreed that his younger brother Ephraim will be greater than him. But their limitation did not stop them.

If your limitation is stopping you or has stopped you, put yourself together and arise NOW. as long as you have breath in your nostril, you already have all it takes. Only arise! And Act!

As much as you need to train children by making good money, please TEACH THEM IN THE WAY OF THE LORD, and also teach them Kingdom principles, godly values and societal morals; gratitude, respect, hard work, diligence, integrity, confidence, stand up for what they believe, patience, modesty, seek God early, submission to God and to man, love, passion, honour…

May the Lord give all our parents the grace to train us well, and also the children the heart to receive godly training and retain godly characters in Jesus name. Amen.

Confession:  Nations cannot ignore me. My requests are granted by God. I cannot be overlooked by men and I command the respect of both young and old.Nations will not be able to resist me. I receive the attention of God and man.

Prayer: Father, Give me good/godly character that attracts greatness. Use my children to announce me to the world.
