Series II – God of Principle: Maintain Your Lane
In the last series, we saw how the ark was moved by David from the house of Abinadab, where it had been for over 40years, according to the account in 1 Samuel 13:1.
God does not joke with His instructions and principles. God had instructed that only the Levite can handle the Ark, He meant it. The incidence was just in a way to remind David that the Ark is sacred and has a guideline/manual. II Samuel 6:1-3, gave an account of the medium David followed to bring back the Ark, first he led his armies/soldiers to bring the ark of God to Jerusalem. Secondly, the Ark was put on a cart guided by Uzzah and Ahio; sons of Abinadab. Numbers 1:48-54 and Deuteronomy 10:8 emphasized who should be in charge of the ark. David has forgotten that God is the God of principle and will not break it for anyone. Not even for Jesus. When God says the wages of sin is death in Romans 3:23, He meant it. Jesus had to die because He was carrying the sin of the whole world, both born then and unborn, as many that believe in Him shall be saved. Over 2000 years, His death is still a saving grace for us out of sin till date. This implies that, any sinner who believe in Jesus, confess his/her sins to Him and accept Him as his/her personal Lord and saviour will not have to die for his/her sin again, but shall be saved. Because Jesus has paid the price once and for all.
Before I go further, let me point the important thing here. For whatever God will put in your custody, there is a manual/guidelines and such guideline must be from God. Not from circumstance, not even from prodigies, because your guidelines might be different from theirs. Meanwhile, their ideas, experiences and advices are important, and should be built on the guidelines gotten from God and not the other way round.
Now, as a result of that incidence, David looked around and decided that the Ark should be kept in the house of Obed-Edom. Thinking, who is not an important person in this kingdom, Obed-Edom was found out. So, Obed-Edom became the custodian of the Ark. Is he a Levite? No! The bible says he is a Gittite. A Gittite is a non-Israelite. Study shows that Gittite originally refers to a Philistine. Is that not a death sentence for him? Did he die as a result of this? God’s principle never changes, so what then happened? We will discuss more about this in Series 3
