We established in the previous post that God truly speaks because that is what He is. He is the Word, John 1:1-3

What are the ways God speaks to people, I will discuss here seven ways with which God speaks to us
God has been using the same approach from the time memorial. But added, speaking to us through the Holy Spirit for us in this dispensation of grace.
The first thing I want to talk about is one of the most common factual way God speaks and the most commonly ignored. God speaks through peace and joy. Anyone who is not born-again cannot boast to have peace. In John 14:27, Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. And Psalm 23:2 says, He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. When your peace and joy leaves, even in place of prayer, especially when there is no physical reason for it, it’s a language in the realm of the spirit, please don’t ignore it.

Put differently, when you lack explanation as to why you did not have peace over a matter, whatever stage you are, please stop and ask God about it. The language of peace and joy are standard spiritual language of communication.
The second way I will discuss is Dreams. God spoke to many people in the bible through dreams, the very prominent is Joseph, but aside him we have; Jacob, Nebuchadnezzar, Pharaoh, The three wise men, and many more God still speaks through dreams today. But because it can be hijacked by the enemy, why it is easy for the enemy to hijack is because we are not conscious of it, and no one can attest to the fact that he/she was present in someone else’s dream. So, when you wake up, it is important to pray about every dream, whether positive or negative. Most cases, when you pray about it, God gives you a scripture to pray with. Don’t forget!
Another that is close to dream is vision and trance. God can show you a vision even while you are fully awake or during a nap. Most of the revelational knowledge our fathers in faith had came through visions, because we need a visual interpretation of the message God is conveying. That is why even the prophets in the bible see more of visions too. As much as God is a spirit, the practicalities of His deeds are visible on earth, hence He shows you things as you can relate. Ezekiel 37, Isaiah 6, Genesis 32:22-30 etc
God speaks to us through His prophets, angels and His lovely children. 2 Samuel 7:4 But in the same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying,…
It is important to note that none of the above mentioned are to be worshipped or placed above God. God speaks through them should not put them in the place of God in our lives. For example; prophets and pastors or church leaders are human like us, and they are prone to error, just like we are. Hence, we should not place them higher than God. They are also looking up to God as we look up to God through them.
This is the one we should desire most, when He speaks to us directly, mouth to mouth like a man speaks with his friend. When we got to tell God how we feel, how our day went, what we know about a particular thing and how God should please take control of it…He has been using this method uncommonly before, as it is limited strictly to prophets and special of His children, like Moses, Abraham, etc. But now, we are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus, as long as You are Holy and have a closer relationship with God, He will sure speak to you. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says; For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. This is what I call speaking to us through the Holy Spirit. He used the method in the time of the old testaments, but never could it be compared to what we have now. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 makes it clear ; for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
No generation had spoken in tongues until after Jesus came, died and rose again…this is our additional value God added to us till Jesus come again. This emphasize that God is in us, He is operational 24/7 when we yield to Him, unlike the prophets of old, when they are spoken to when needs be, now we can enter boldly to God’s presence through Jesus Christ and have a chit-chat. “This is one of our many advantages over the enemy, when we speak in the language of the spirit, it’s a mystery.” Dunsin Oyekan

The sixth way is Through His Word. Psalm 119:105 says Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. It shows me the way wherein I should go,… God made it a point of duty to speak to us through His Word because His Word is His bond. Verse 11 of Psalm 119 emphasize further that; Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee;

He communicate His will to us through His Word and also help us to live a fulfilled life by following His Word. He even gives us victory through His Word. Because His Word is powerful and strong. Hebrews 4:12 makes it very clear; For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The 7th and the last to be discussed in this post; He speaks to us through songs, through messages from men of God and anything He created; nature, animal, light, sun…anything Proverbs 6:6-8 advice the sluggard to go and learn from the ant.
Psalm 107:20, says that when God send His Word, it will deliver from any form of destruction. If the word God sent to you cannot bring peace, joy and deliverance, then, it is not from God, because God will not contradict Himself.
God can choose to speak to His children through any of the above means or through all, only that it is important that we as His children know when He speaks to us. John 10 makes this clear; 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
