A Family is a group of people related by marriage and birth or other relationships approved in the society/community they agree to live in.
That definition is loaded with intrinsic meanings and I will break them down one after the other. Although, this post will only focus on two things; The ability to see the need for a union is the beginning of the marital journey, your need must be met in your choice (the one you choose to take the journey with). More will be dealt with in the full series, watch out for it on AMAZON.
The first family on earth was Adam and Eve. They came together because;
God saw there was need for cohabitation and companionship, He met this need by creating another like Adam but in a more attractive form (woman/lady/girl/female). Genesis 2:22-23 says Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”
Marriage comes out of a need of two people. The man needed someone to express love to; a companion (woman) and confidant, the woman needed someone to submit to in order to live in fulfilment, and both of them have a need to fulfil the purpose of God through each other.
Aside that the man and woman also saw the need for each other to be together, they also agreed on this together. Amos 3:3, “Can two walk together except they agree?” The answer is NO!. When the enemy want to destroy a purpose, they bring two people of opposite view/goal together, at times without both of them realising it, they will assume they agreed together. God’s principle will never change, these two people MUST agree together before a union stands. Whether it is by deception or force or willingly, agreement is KEY! But how can we explain a marriage that hit the rock and scatter after such a beautiful and glorious wedding ceremony. While some are enjoying their marriages.
Let us delve a little into why marriages fail.
Can we say marriages fail because the two are not in agreement?
A union can start with total agreement, but later disagree because focus and individual goals changed as a result of a new understanding. The understanding of men in the Bible and our generation is slightly different, note the word “slightly”, because the foundational principle is the same. This is because, marriages as recorded in the bible lasted because of LOVE, RESPECT, UNDERSTANDING, but most importantly, because of the presence of God factor. God’s factor here can be explained in many ways. Get the full series of THERE’S A KING IN YOU on Amazon.
In our generation therefore, examples of marriages in the bible could not give us an absolute way or truth of marital relationship, but we were able to get a stereotype and the principles that will work with which we can infer ours from. Marriages in the bible are mostly polygamous in nature, and that we have learnt is like locking yourself up with a deadly snake.
But God was kind enough to communicate His principles to us through this imperfect unions.
- He communicated total trust in God through the family of Elkanah. 1 Samuel 1
- He also communicated that if any man would love his wife compassionately, I will lift him up; He demonstrated it in the life of Isaac. Genesis 26, Ephesians 5:25
- He communicated that if I am the source of it, I will personally see to any anomalies. This He demonstrated with Adam and Eve. Genesis 3
- He communicated that I will never forget nor forsake you, when you hold on to me through Rebecca. Genesis 24:19-23
- He communicated that if any woman will respect her husband, He (God) will do the impossible in her life, this was demonstrated through Sarah who gave birth at 90. Genesis 18:9-10, Ephesians 5:33
- He communicated that love can make things happen. This He described by making Joseph instrumental in the plans of the journey to Egypt, but He also communicated that no matter the mistake we make, He values and will still always bring fulfilment from the first wife’s loin…so let your wife only satisfy you. He described this in the life of Leah, Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, the son of the first wife.
Jacob wouldn’t have found himself in the mess of experiencing barrenness with Rachel. Because that man carried grace, but his journey was elongated by his uncle.
LESSON: No matter what, stay on God’s principles
Statistics has shown that the child of the first wife is ALWAYS the carrier of the promise. Example; Isaac, Judah, Samuel,…
Conclusion, God will not change his principle because of any man, align with Him. This series has dwelt on one out of 7 aspects of this topic, kindly get the full version of THERE IS A KING IN YOU on Amazon.

I agree with my spouse on all grounds. And peradventure our focus is changing, put us on the right track Lord. This I confess and experience in Jesus name.
Prayer: Father! Align my marriage with Your principles Lord and help me/us to focus on your plan and purpose for our life in Jesus name.
